Past few weeks have kept me busy and very little time for writing. Thought I would share a note I send to a friend regarding fear and the challenges of sailing.

Rachel, just wanted you to know that your comment to the affect that the rudder situation scared you a bit also reflected my own feelings at times. Sailing and cruising as I do is much more challenging than most understand. In the end, the fear is usually a good thing provided its used in balance. Fear causes one to carefully consider the situation and think through ones options with cautious deliberation. The balance is to keep the fear in check and not let it keep one from performing the tasks required. Usually, in the moment of action, one is so focused that the fear becomes secondary to doing what has to be done. Later, when its all behind me, the fear returns followed by thankfulness. Sailing is a great metaphor for life. And I think at times, life is much harder than sailing.......
