So I told her we would meet in Paris

Although she didn’t know

I was already there

Waiting at the the Ritz.

But I knew

she would hesitate

And leave me there alone

Ah, but such a lovely place

To be

alone.

And that night

I listened to sounds

From the room

Next to mine

And nearly went crazy

That night

On the Seine

Next to the Cathedral

alone.

So I told her we would meet in Barcelona

But I got there too late

But it didn’t matter

Because I knew

She would not wait

Ah, but such a lovely place

To be

alone.

And that night

I listened to the crowds roar

As a bull fought

A noble fight

But was killed

while so many cheered

And I wept.

That night.

For the bull

alone.

So I told her we would meet in Florence

At a small bar near the Palazzo Vecchio

But I never got there

But I knew it wouldn’t matter

We were so much in love

But our worlds were so far apart

So I took my time

Fearing she would break my heart.

And I sought relief

in the mystery of absinthe

Taking in the

Lovely licorice libation

Filling my mind

With visions

That were never to be.

alone.

And when we were to meet in Jerusalem

I was determined to believe

And trust that this love was real

So I traveled there

And waited in the Garden

But fell asleep

So tired.

And woke

Such a beautiful place

Heartbroken.

Alone.

And now so much life

Has gone before me

So much I don’t understand

And I no longer look for her

But sometimes think of the bull

And find comfort

In his noble fight.

A very noble alone.
