So I want to know

Where the present goes

My father shared stories

About when he was young.

Where are his stories now.

Does the universe keep them.

Is there a place

That holds them.

What happens to what

The present was

A hundred and fifty years ago.

Or a thousand years ago.

Surely it must be saved.

If not

Is it wasted.

For what is the value

What is the use

What became of it

If it is simply gone

In the past

Never to be remembered

Never to learn from

Or know the love

That once was.

Will the universe

Remember the first time

I kissed a girl.

Will it remember

The moment my son was born

Will it remember

The last day

I spent with my mother.

So I want to know

Where the present goes

I want to know

That it is never lost

That it still has meaning

And purpose.

Because if it is gone

Forever

I don’t understand

And I am lost.
